I am a sucker for T-Shirts that look soft and well-worn, and this ribbed cotton T-shirt hangs beautifully with soft, realistic folds. It is the Mesh Austin Tee in STEEL BLUE from Cold Ash and it is a fine representation of the quality that goes into the clothing that they make. It comes in a total of 5 sizes and two of those are fitmesh, so it fit my body very well with no fiddling at all. Just pure, easy summer wear. Stop by Cold Ash and pick up this FREE Group Gift, It is extremely well done. Out on the beach I decided to wear the Men's Denim Shorts in Plaid from a store named Trashed. They have an soft, relaxed style that I think compliments the T-Shirt greatly. More than that, the texturing is excellent and it would look great with a lot of other summer clothing. The Trashed Men’s denim shorts in plaid are not free, they are part of the “Just For Him” sales event and will set you back 85L but are well worth it. Also in the beach picture is the cap, which was just one of those lucky finds you sometimes run across accidentally. It is a 1L hunt prize from a hunt which is sadly already over. Luckily, the owner of Ashmoot forgot to pick up the hunt prize! It’s only 1L and the cap matches the T-shirt wonderfully. Sadly I can’t recall the name of the hunt, but you are looking for a hunt object shaped like a mask called “P-H Hunt # 8″. Look for it where you find the daily prize boards. Kristabel Ashmoot promises me she will leave it out until the end of the month so we all have a chance to grab it (a VERY sweet thing to do for us). Lastly, in the second pic is a very grungy pair of jeans, yet another appearance for a FREE Group Gift from Lavarock on my blog. I don't know what it is about their style but it really clicks with me and their group gifts are always of a high quality. For those reasons Lavarock has been the one store I have posted here more any other, I love that place. They are the Destroy Male Jeans and come in 2 styles, with five sizes of each included in the gift. They have a super cool grunge look and fit perfectly with the soft worn feel of the Cold Ash T-Shirt. The only problem is they have been out for quite a while, and at the moment I am unable to say how much longer they will remain available. If you like them in the picture, go get them immediately. Oh Carami!

In my first life, I am a T-shirt and jeans kind of guy. There are a lot of us out there and this FREE Thank You Gift from Carami is perfect for us. On my avy in varying windlight settings, they appear somewhere between a lavender and light gray, but have some aqua and blue in them, you really should take a look yourself, they are pretty special. Springing Into May, All Hopped Up On Freebies! (Repost)

May has started out wonderfully for me, and when you get a glance at this freebie, your May will become as great as mine. FaMESHed is a monthly event on SL, and this month was actually the first time I ever attended. Being a guy, shopping events have not been a major focus of mine (until now). I am kicking myself for that though since I laid eyes on this fantastic FREE leather overcoat from Kauna! The Kauna-XIV Leather Overcoat is supplied in both a black and a brown version and is finely textured. In fact, click on the pictures in this post and you can almost feel the leather with your fingertips. Prepare to fall in some serious love with this overcoat. It is given away FREE at FaMESHed to celebrate the third anniversary of the event and to promote Kauna's excellent line of XIV suits and separates. If you have the money, you might well be compelled to do what I did and splurge on some matching components, like the XIV T-Shirt Pack: Plain & Striped and the XIV Shirt: Coffee pictured above. They are made to fit beautifully with the overcoat and are a very nice luxury if you have the coin.



You might ask, “What if you have nothing to spend on Second Life's great luxuries at the moment?” Well, if that's the case, then this overcoat is still a must pick up. In addition to the components made to fit especially for this jacket, you can use other items you could already have in your inventory. Being a mesh overcoat, it might be somewhat tricky to find pieces to wear under it. With this stylish garment, I would heartily recommend system (layers) T-shirts, and (if you can find some) system dress shirts with sculpted collars. Both will look great with it. Even if you have to fiddle with the sculpted collars to find one that works well, you are going to look fantastic.

In the picture above, you can see I paired The Kauna-XIV Leather Overcoat with a FREE Group Gift from Gizza; a pink and black shirt that was offered a while back and is still available. I think it looks very nice in this outfit and is a great example of a freebie that works well. Gizza is a great place to pick up a bunch of Free Gifts since they keep their previous FREE Group Gifts out for an extended period. It would be an excellent first stop in a search for items to wear with this stylish overcoat.

Last, but far from least, I am wearing a very special set of eyes. The Mayfly - Luminous - Mesh Eyes in London Fog are a FREE Gift from one of the best eye creators in Second Life. As The April Showers Give Way To Flower Power! (Repost)

I was a huge fan of Woodstock (I’m pretty sure he was on my first lunch box when I started kindergarten). My memories come flooding back when I think of those times. Of course, I was too young to enjoy the summer of love back then. Sure, I may have gone running off in a field, letting my diaper fall to the warm earth, and enjoying the feeling of a summer breeze embracing me, but I am also pretty sure I would have gotten spanked for it, too. Spanked very hard, the sixties didn't reach my family home until around 1976. The good news is that for those of us who missed out on the groovy clothes and free love back then, Madcat Creations has designed an excellent prize for The Vintage Hunt. The Male Hippie Outfit is so brilliantly colored it actually looks like it is tie-dyed, as opposed to some similar items with multicolored fractal images on them. This outfit brought me instant faux flashbacks of dancing in the mud, grooving to the sounds of the Grateful Dead. Keep in mind one of the most popular club events in SL are Sixties-themed nights. This prize will come in very handy. The Vintage Hunt is not a free hunt, but the prizes are only 1L and if you look around Madcat Creations you might find the matching women's version as well (they are boxed separately). My bracelet is a free group gift from one of the best Jewelry stores on SL: Earthstones. The Peace Friendship Bracelet goes great with this outfit, but be mindful that the group costs 250L to join. My campsite is a great hunt prize from Finishing Touches. Available for FREE on The Camping Trip Hunt , it comes with the table, chairs and a nice campfire with a pot of coffee warming. Truly a lovely hunt gift.

From a full-fledged freak out of colors, we step away from the pallet to admire something entirely different. This white leather jacket with the integrated grey T-shirt from Wanted knocked me out when I saw it. Luckily for all of us, it has just been put on their Midnight Mania board! I was originally planning to pair it with a nice pair of black jeans, or maybe with a frosted texture, which I am sure would look fantastic. However, Apple May Designs had something even better to go with it for 1L in their Recolors Of Spring Hunt. These white pants look great with the jacket, and since they are unbuttoned at the very top, adding a belt to fill the space between the jacket and the pants as shown is a great idea. The Recolors Of Spring Hunt is scheduled to end today so hurry to pick up these pants. Seriously, RUN! As I was preparing this post, I realized this same men's jacket in XS might please a female avatar who has an androgynous appearance, or is going for a tomboy look. Since it's an MM board, we guys could sure use your help locking it anyway.

Step Right Up And Enjoy The Show. (repost)

As a young boy, I witnessed a man in a raggedy, sequined outfit jump over a pair of trailers on his dirt bike, much to the delight of the crowd. Years later, here I am on the shoulder of Route 23, promoting the debut of my own daredevil show. I chose to wear a group gift from TentatioN. It is very casual and sporty, but with the camouflage pattern on the cargo pants pockets and in the lower corner of the shirt, it also says, "I am a warrior." Sometimes, it's best to let your clothes speak for you (unless they are going to say "I'm a dork", then there is no reason to give them a megaphone). This, however, says volumes in a positive, masculine manner. The gift comes with a color change hud, providing four color choices for both the mesh shirt and the pants. TentatioN is not a free group, though. It will set you back 30L, but this outfit in four colors is worth it.

I grew up in Los Tres Dolores New Mexico , a town named for a mystical formation of three cacti. For my death-defying entry into the world of show business, I will jump over that local landmark in the greatest riding lawnmower jump in the history of mankind! At first glance a lawnmower it may not appear to be the best choice for soaring through the air, but isn't a riding mower essentially a helicopter that has been flipped upside down? This very detailed (and shockingly fast) mower is the current FREE group gift from Knight Performance. This store along with the one which shares the building with them (Surplus Motors) are great sources for beautifully detailed vehicles in SL. Both stores are free groups and offer many Midnight Manias, group gifts and discounts. If you have any interest in vehicles on Second Life, you should seriously consider joining them.

If you are going to let your clothes do the speaking for you, this Rockabilly Hunt prize jacket from The Dark Fae positively screams, "Rebel.” Its cool stand-up collar and retro styling including a must see graphic on its' back are perfect for people who don't follow the rules, like me (even if it's because I can't be bothered to read them). The Rebel Soul Jacket sports versions with and without the t-shirt and comes in three sizes, plus an additional two sizes in fitmesh. Cool style is timeless, and this jacket is perfectly cool! This Rockabilly Hunt prize is not free, but at only 2L, it’s a bargain. These jeans are extraordinary as well, coming from a quickly expanding store called Illi. Currently on their Midnight Mania board, these Midnight Open Belt Jeans are nicely textured and look great, and a big surprise was the texture hud that came with them. Illi gives us 8 denim colors, 4 belt colors and 4 metal accent textures for the belt. That is excellent versatility for a free gift! It does carry a small logo, but it is easy to overlook, given the generosity of this Midnight Mania prize. Also worth noting are my mesh white leather sneakers, fresh from the Wayward Hunt. The prize, from the store United Colors, comes in both men's and ladies’ sizes and with that touch of blue on them they look fantastic for a FREE hunt gift. I was truly impressed!

Well, I dressed for success and I did everything right but sometimes that just isn't enough. Sometimes in life the ramp just isn't high enough, or maybe the wind shifts, or maybe a lawn mower just isn't meant to fly. A person could drive themselves crazy sitting back and reflecting over those kinds of things, but not me. I am on to my next great adventure and I hope you will be there with me.-----WHC Riler

Logo-verkill Or Incredible Free Boots?

Hello fellow Scavengers, I have a very short and simple post today. Recently, a store called ODDITY popped up on my radar with a fantastic FREE group gift. It has been out for a while so if you are interested in having a very nice, highly detailed set of boots you are going to want to run there. The boots are leather textured MESH and come in black and brown with options for light or dark detailing changed via a hud. The hud is super easy to use and very well thought out, I was impressed. They are probably the best free boots I have ever laid my hands on but there is a minor problem. Oddity has rather liberally marked them with the name of their store, something which most times would mean I would not consider the item for posting. That is a personal policy of mine in general but this item was so good, I was forced to override that policy. You can see from the picture the embossed leather company name is large but somewhat subtle and the other logos are not obtrusive. Factoring in how I feel about the branding on these boots, they are still "The best free boots I have found"! That should tell you something about how highly I rate them and the quality of the items at Oddity in general. They are likely only going to be out for a limited time so if you like the pic, go grab them and give them a fair look. I bet most of you are going to love them. See you on the grid!-----WHC Riler

Happy Valentine's Day!

In the United States, today is Valentines Day. I tried to research this extensively so I could add some insight into the origin and cultural significance of this holiday, but after reading the Wiki, I said to heck with that and decided to just make stuff up. There is some uncertainty about the origin of the Valentine for which this holiday is named. I think the most likely historical figure was an inventor in the early 1400's who gained some notoriety for developing a new lightweight, easily configurable kind of armor for which late in life he was made a Patron Saint. Not surprisingly, the age of cardboard armor was quite fleeting as it offered little protection from swords, arrows, rain and even candles. To this day however, we honor Saint Valentine the Patron Saint of Dubious Armor by sending messages to our loved ones on thin pieces of decorated cardboard. In the United States our modern Valentines Day tradition began in 1912 when the President signed the great holiday compromise bill into law. Frustration American women felt when earlier in the month they were traditionally given groundhogs as tokens of their lover's affection had finally boiled over and the government was forced to intervene. As the result, Valentines Day was created for gift giving, and the groundhog, once nearly as popular as the Chihuahua in American households, fell in stature to it's current position, slightly more popular than a television weather man. LAVAROCK has once again made it's way onto my blog with their FREE group gift, a black very nicely textured casual shirt which buttons up the front. It has a leathery texture and is emblazoned in back with a dark gray tribal heart design that is tastefully done. As always with a Lavarock gift you get great texturing and detailing including stitching and realistic metallic buttons. A note to some of my more conservative friends, the buttons do have tiny non-inverted pentagrams on them in case it matters. It's Official, Spring Is Here!

Now, before you look at me like I am insane, I have to tell you I am fully aware that Spring is technically not here yet. To paraphrase a song, however, "It's springtime somewhere!" That somewhere is in parts of Florida and Arizona where Major League Baseball's spring training will open in just a week! For me, that is a very welcome sign that winter is in retreat. Riot and I got together yesterday to play a little ball at the local park in celebration of Winter’s end. We are both wearing the same shirt, a fantastic FREE group gift from LAPOINTE & BASTCHILD. The L&B Swear "Classic" T-Shirt comes with a texture change hud giving both of these textures, plus eight more. Each design has a very cool, vaguely retro, realistic, and comfortable look. For many of us, Second Life is where our imaginations go to play and explore. The title of this post, a quote by my favorite Beatle, John Lennon, says a lot about life. It explains a lot about our second lives as well. We explore, we learn, we develop as avatars and (despite what some people believe) we do so as people at the same time. Our imaginations can develop when our real life limitations disappear. Indulging in these opportunities for play can help us become better and more rounded people. This is what I wish for all of us in 2015: A year of imaginations on the rampage and peace and joy spreading across the grid, trickling into all of our other lives. I was thrilled to see a FREE group gift from ASHBURY recently, one that is perfect for my first post of 2015. It's Halloween! Soon, that is. It will be Halloween. Coming up. Soon.

Lately, Celise has been pestering me relentlessly. So, I promised I would kick off my Halloween posts with her favorite Halloween costume of 2014. This is the current FREE GROUP GIFT from JAZZITUDE, a lovingly produced tribute to the British television show and international cult phenomenon "Doctor Who". The science fiction show features a time machine/spacecraft called the TARDIS (which is disguised as a police call box). The costume is adorable! One really great advantage is that this costume is appropriate for any sim. Yet, it still looks a little bit sexy to me. Depicted on the dress is the TARDIS and Jazzy, the creator, has included several subtle nods to different seasons of the show as a tribute to the Doctor. This is an incredibly unique costume. It's Worth The Wait .(UPDATE! SEVEN DEADLY SKINS GROUP NOW FREE OCT 31ST ONLY)

I am so excited! It's shaping up to be a fantastic month to be a resident of Second Life. There are free haunted houses and other scary builds, Halloween themed dances and it is an extremely active month for freebie/bargain hunters. Yesterday, I received word that the FREE GROUP GIFTS from HOORENBEEK have changed, so I rushed over to check them out. They have an unusual policy regarding their gifts, but Hoorenbeek is an excellent store and the gifts are fantastic. In order to be eligible for them you must first join their subscribo and wait two weeks before you can pick up them up. It sounds like it's a hassle but since it's a subscribo it won't tie up one of your group slots, and the gifts from them are of high enough quality that it is worth the extra effort. The gifts do not change every month but since they require a waiting period to pick them up, it's understandable that they are kept out longer to give people more time to pick them up. This month's gift is the MESH Montgomery Jacket in gray. It is a perfect jacket for the weather as it turns colder, one that looks as if it will keep you warm during the coldest of days. The details are superb from the realistic lining of the hood to the buttons that could hold the jacket closed. The Montgomery Jacket looks rugged but still maintains a nice civilized look. I should warn you to please read the card included in the gift, it contains a short description of all the included parts and options. That is needed because the options included go beyond merely wearing the jacket open or closed. In the picture I am wearing it open along with the shirt insert and to give it a more complete look I grabbed the Gray Classic Tie from Nerd Monkey. The tie was a hunt gift from a previous hunt blogged in my entry "Basic Black? Not A Chance, This Is Exceptional Black!" and has been extremely useful to me. I also wanted to point out the skin I am wearing. It is the Halloween Hunt gift - Vincent at SEVEN DEADLY SKINS, but it's a group only hunt. The group is 200 lindens to join which sadly makes it outside the scope of this blog, but the owner of Seven Deadly Skins does offer reduced prices to join every so often and I will try to keep track of when that happens to give everyone a heads up. Slipping Into Fall.

The weather is changing now in my area of the world. The days become shorter and cooler. It is quite a sight to see, the leaves changing. Soon, it will be time to go up into the mountains and look out over the breathtaking sight of the trees draped in their autumn colors. Of course when you do, here is a little tip from someone who is in awe of such grandeur. STAY IN THE CAR! It's cold out there and utterly miserable. There is no reason at all to leave the comfort of your fossil fuel burning bubble. That's why man invented the window. What I really look forward to more than the turning of the leaves is the change of the monthly LAVAROCK group gift. Once again, it does not disappoint. One difference is the tiny pentagrams on the two lapel buttons, just another small detail on a wonderfully detailed jacket.  Also worth noting is the hair I am wearing. It is the FREE Welcome Gift "MINATO" [male/unisex] from ARGRACE. It comes in a fatpack of 40 colors and is resizeable. This hair was also shown in black on an uncredited Riot Bayn in a previous post entitled "A Low Rumbling Whisper In The Darkness". Given the difficulty in finding freebie/cheapie male hair, it is a definite pick up if you haven't been there already. Also as a bonus for female avies picking up the welcome pack, there is another female hair in it as well. It's already mid-August and I have not made it to the beach this year but Riot and Celise were kind enough to send me a few photos from their last trip as a consolation. The Dog Days Of Summer Hunt gift from HC PREMIUM CREATIONS is something that deserves some special attention. The HCC SeaStar~Be My Summer Love item is a low land impact mesh starfish with 4 texture options. It has an extensive menu of cuddles (both standing and sitting), along with some singles poses as well. Amazingly, it has 190 animations total in it, which is extremely generous, a fabulous bargain for a 1L hunt prize! The MESH shirt Riot is wearing is a prize from my favorite hunt of the month: The Blues hunt from Depraved Nation. The Blues - Tshirt hunt prize from DUCKNIPPLE can be worn in blue, black, red, green or beige using the texture change hud . The texturing is amazing and it comes in regular and wide waist so you can wear it over mesh pants if you wish. It has the look of a favorite soft cotton tee, one that perhaps has been on many adventures with you over the years. I love shirts like this, they just look wonderfully comfortable. The Blues hunt is not a free hunt. It is 5L, but this shirt is really worth picking up. Celise wanted me to point out the MESH bikini she is wearing as well. It is the Barbara Bikini from JAZZITUDE and comes with a texture change hud. In the pictures, she is wearing two different versions, the striped and the flowered. The hud also includes a plain and a polka dot version. This is a thank you gift for members of the Telecom Hub group (FREE GROUP GIFT), and if that's not enough, next to that gift in the store is JAZZITUDE'S own FREE GROUP GIFT, which is the same Barbara Bikini in another four pink textures. In total, it is a great, realistic rigged Mesh bikini in eight textures for FREE. Summer Blockbuster!

Many people don't know this about me, but I wrote a movie. It was actually a great idea: I wrote some car crash scenes and gunfights, mixed in some gratuitous sex and it was ready. What made my screenplay brilliant was I left 40 minutes open for a plot to be added later! That way, when they are about to shoot the movie, the producers and directors can look in the newspaper, plug in the most current events, and BAM!!! Instant movie. My friend, RenzoLuna, is going to star in it though because I want to preserve the integrity of my creative process (and because I hate going on diets). Its Forty Damned Degrees Here, Hello Spring!

I got up this morning flush with excitement.  This winter has been a long, cold one and I have been cooped up here in my survivalist cabin for far too long.  So I put on my new favorite leather jacket, this is a brand new GROUP GIFT from Lavarock, and headed out to meet the day.  Forty degrees Fahrenheit outside, and I swear I learned something I had not realized.  Human nipples chafe against even the softest, most supple leather at that temperature.  I developed first degree nipple burn which I treated with Neosporin and alcohol, making sure not to spill any of my drink on my injury, because when you look this hawt in a handsome MESH leather jacket the last thing you want people to hear is you screaming like a little girl in agony.  It really mitigates your hawtness, or so I hear.-----WHC Riler
